About the Department
The Library of the Govt Degree College Kargil was established in 1995. The Library moved in to the present premises in June 2016, built out of grants provided by the District planning board. In August 2015, after the sad demise of the Ex President of India and Missile Man of the Country Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the library was named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as a tribute to the exemplary contribution in space science and education. Now the college library is known as "APJ ABDUL KALAM LIBRARY".
Vision and Mission
The primary mission of the library is to support the educational and research programs of the College by providing physical and virtual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated academic functions of the College. In accordance with the objectives of the College, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the faculty and the Students of the College. The collection of the library includes printed resources on diverse subjects. The Library supports the academic community in carrying out teaching learning and research activities to the extent within the financial constraints.

Library Processing Section
The College library processing section is the main section in which the housekeeping operations like classification, cataloguing, bibliographic record and library user’s profiles are being generated for easy and automated circulation of the information sources. The library processing section is being equipped with computers connected in a LAN network. Software of University Library, SOUL (A Library Database Management System (DBMS)) is in use in the college library for automated management of the library operations.
